History
HISTORY
The Angeles University Foundation Credit Cooperative Inc. (AUF-CCI) was established on November 18, 1981 with an initial capital of Five Thousand Pesos (P5,000.00) as “Seed Money” from the University President, Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles. With the managerial and financial assistance provided by Dr. Angeles, the Institute for Small Business & Cooperative (ISBC) and the AUF Administration set into motion the machinery that led to the granting of the approval for the operation of the AUF-CCI.
Thirty-three (33) AUF personnel who served as its first members and were considered as the CORE GROUP pioneered the AUF-CCI. The AUF-CCI has been guided ever since by the rationale behind the CORE Group’s establishment of a cooperative which is:
• to discourage usurers;
• to satisfy the urgent need for credit; and
• to educate the members on the value of savings and wise spending.
Through the years the Cooperative has been operating successfully. Additional credit facilities were introduced and loaning services were improved to cater to the needs and growing demands of the members. This was made possible with strong partnerships with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP). The Land Bank also financed the construction of the AUF-CCI building that now serves as the principal office of the Cooperative. The building was inaugurated on February 14, 2001 with Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles, AUF President and Dr. Aurelia L. Villaraza, AUFMC Director as principal sponsors.
The clamor of the members for additional and improved services mobilized the Cooperative to move its direction towards diversification. The move towards diversification mandates the Cooperative to change its status from a credit cooperative to a multi-purpose cooperative.
Thus, in the year 2002, the Board in consultation with the Unit Representatives, the Members of the Committees, and the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), deliberated on the possible conversion of the Cooperative from a credit cooperative to a multi-purpose cooperative. Careful study and deliberation were also done on the proposed amendments in the Articles of Cooperation and the By-Laws of the Cooperative. The results of the deliberation were presented for consideration and approval of the General Assembly on a Special Meeting held on September 28, 2002. The CDA approved the conversion of the Cooperative to a multi-purpose cooperative on November 20, 2002.
On January 1, 2003, the Cooperative adopted its new name, the Angeles University Foundation Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AUFMPC) and started officially its operation as a primary non-agricultural multi-purpose cooperative.
To underscore the Cooperative’s role in establishing greater identification with its members and the community and in strengthening its policy of putting the collective interests of its members first, the general membership elected to use the name AUFCOOP during the 26th Annual General Assembly on February 9, 2008.
In recognition of its contributions in initiating and promoting programs and activities leading to the sustained financial stability of the Cooperative and its members and of the Cooperative’s immersion in community development advocacies the AUFCOOP was conferred the following merits of appreciation:
